gpuViewer tech-preview 2, update

A new version is available that:
- fixes a crash bug when trying to parse some JPG files beyond their end (this is the cause of many startup crashes)
- fixes a second startup crash bug
- smoother wheel zoom
- wheel-zoom direction made to match the behaviour of apps like virtual earth
- zoom down to full image resolution without needing to switch to “photo view” mode
- reduced lag when reaching day level
- improved double-click zoom logic (improved but not perfect, mind you)

Known issues:
- can’t browse read-only media like DVDs (because index.vg can’t be created)
- on some platforms stats appear as a black rectangle (when pressing the “tab” key). This seems to be the case only on Windows Vista
- images without an embedded thumbnail aren’t imported
- some have reported the app doing nothing at startup, with one core 100% busy
- I have reports of gpuViewer crashing while adding records to the database, but haven’t found the cause yet

Go to the dowload area and download your version now.
And, please, don’t hesitate to give feedback by commenting on the blog or directly sending an email. It’s the only way to improve !

nice, works smoother than the previous version.

but have you changed the wheel-zoom-speed ?
i keep wheeling-and-wheeling and it takes TOO long to zoom in to the lowest level.
my finger hurts from wheeling. [quick, change it back before anyone notices :P]

fortunately [CTRL]-drag zooms a bit faster

It still crashes on startup on my Radeon 9600 (latest Catalyst version)
“The application has crashed, do you accept to send a report to our servers ?”

Same here, crash at startup. Did that also with the previous preview version. A dialog pops up saying “The application has crashed, do you accept to send a report to our servers ?” I haven’t been able to start this program even for once. 7600 GS with 163.71 forceware.

There are six crash reports on the server right now, which either means I’m very close to having resolved all crashes or that there are only very few people actually trying the software (although downloads are steady).

I hope to look into these remaining reports very soon. I’m really sorry I haven’t been able to fix these crashes quicker.

gpuViewer hangs on 100% CPU useage(50% on Core2Duo), when I submit to the “Config Survey”, happened on last version as well. I have recently updated my card and drivers so it maybe my PC, running XP SP2, E6600 at 2.4ghz and 3gb RAM.

  6. admin Says:

This infinite loop on uploading the Config Survey is driving me a little crazy… I still don’t know what is causing it.

One question I never thought to ask: If you don’t accept sending the config survey, it works, right?

  7. Costa Says:

i had the Config Survey bug on several machines i tried.
“Not accept” does not cause problems.

However, if you _DO_ accept, the only way out is to terminate the process.
After that starting gpuViewer from the start menu works without problems (except for the corrupted screen it shows the 1st time)

    Hope this helps

    /Costa
