Zoom through your photos with gpuViewer
We’re proud to release this second tech preview of gpuViewer as it marks an important milestone for us: the proof of concept of the Zoom UI. The main feature in today’s release is the calendar view that lets you find your pictures by simply zooming on the calendar. Yes, just like that, using your mouse wheel or the up/down keys, you can go back and forth between general view and detail, from the summary of years right down to a 1000 pixels wide preview!
The unexpected side-effect of this new user interface is that it is particularly well suited to things like tabletPC’s in general and UMPCs in particular. This version of gpuViewer runs interestingly well on the Asus R2Hv we have here and it seems clear that with a little more work, this will make the perfect travel photographer’s companion: portable storage on steroïds…
Please, go to the dowload area and give this a try. And don’t forget to send some feedback, good or bad. Be aware that this all is very much work in progress and that some problems may arise. We are aware of a certain tendency of the software to take time to start, especially on a fresh boot, please be patient…
As of the future, there is a lot in the pipe… The OSX version is still lacking some essential bits, hopefully nothing complicated. On the user interface front, the calendar view is the “when” part of a “when-where-who-what” plan… Expect ZoomUI modes dealing with maps, faces and keywords. As of features, the ranking system is still ironed out, together with backup and upload systems.
